Abstract
1339367 Multiple sanitary units R BUCHER 16 March 1972 [11 May 1971] 12467/72 Heading E1C A multiple sanitary unit, of the kind comprising a W.C. and at least one other sanitary fitting mounted on a turntable and connected to a drainage system arranged generally coaxially of the turntable, whereby each sanitary fitting may be moved by rotation of the turntable into a position of use whilst maintaining the drainage connections, is provided with a central drain pipe 10 receiving waste via a trap from the W.C., the lower end of pipe 10 being mounted in a sealing flange structure 9, 11, 12 of the turntable 14, of which sleeve portion 9 is journalled in a bearing sleeve 3 secured by a flange 3a to a fixed base part 1, and has drain pipes 25, 26 leading from traps associated with at least one other unit, e.g. a wash .basin 20 and a bidet (21, Fig. 2, not shown), which pass through the turntable to discharge into an annular drainage channel 1d in the base part 1, a further channel 1c being provided in the base part 1 and arranged to be kept full of water, and a depending annular flange 14a on the turntable being arranged to dip into the water in the channel lc to provide a friction-free odour-seal. A pipe 8 is arranged to feed a small amount of water from the flushing cistern of the W.C. into the channel 1c each time the cistern is emptied, so that fresh water is supplied to the channel 1c, water at the same time overflowing from the channel portion on the opposite side of the annular flange 14a into the channel 1d to be drained. A conduit 2 is sealing secured to the base 1, together with the flange 3a, to lead the waste from the W.C. discharge pipe 10 to a vertical drain 42 in the building in which the unit is installed, a second vertical drain (18, Fig. 2, not shown) being provided to receive waste water from the channel 1d via a pipe 7 and also via a pipe 28 having a trap 28a from a recessed portion 1e of the base which receives water from a shower tray 1a formed by an extension of the base 1, the space above the turntable being divided into four quadrants by partitions (22, Fig. 2 not shown) so that W.C., bidet, wash basin and shower fittings mounted in respective quadrants can be brought successively into the position of use, by rotating the turntable by 90 degree increments through a total of 270 degrees. The partitions have sealing strips at their extremities co-operating with a cylindrical casing extending around the unit for 270 degrees to enclose the fittings not in use. The turntable is driven by an electric motor 16 controlled by a circuit which includes safety switches associated with the casing. The drainage system is completed by a ventilating pipe extending upwardly from the waste pipe 10, and ventilating pipes, e.g. 27, connected between the waste pipes 25, 26 and the ventilating pipe.
