Abstract

1338847 Mechanical storage systems DEMAG AG 20 Jan 1972 [1 March 1971] 2755/72 Heading B8E A shelf storage in which a carriage 5 is movable into a position relative to a shelf and load supporting means 6 thereon is movable into a position to receive or deposit a load on the shelf has control apparatus to position the carriage. After initial movement of the carriage to the appropriate shelf positioning is controlled by an indicator plate 8 associated with each shelf and photo responsive sensors U1-U4. Firstly drive motors position the carriage horizontally until the first pair of sensors U1, U2 are aligned with the indicator and then depending on whether a further sensor has detected a load on the support means the carriage is moved vertically to position sensor U4 or U3 in line with the indicator 8. With the carriage thus accurately positioned further drive means moves the support 6 in over the shelf and then lowers it to deposit a load or raises it to pick up a load after which the support means is withdrawn.
