Abstract

1338395 Mono-olefin-conjugated diene copolymerization catalyst INTERNATIONAL SYNTHETIC RUBBER CO Ltd 10 Sept 1971 [12 June 1970] 28593/70 Heading C3P Alternating copolymers are obtained by reacting an alphamonoolefin and a conjugated diene at temperatures below -10‹ C. in the presence of a catalyst, suitably formed in a hydrocarbon medium in the presence of part of the alphamonoolefin, comprising (a) a vanadium compound, (b) an aluminium trihalide, and (c) an organolithium compound. Component (c) may be complexed with an alkoxide of an alkali metal other than lithium. Exemplified polymerizations comprise the alternating copolymerization of butadiene and propylene in the presence of (a) VOCl 3 , (b) AlBr 3 , (c) n-C 4 HgLi, and optionally t-C 4 H 9 OK.
