Abstract
1338009 Selective printing CENTRONICS DATA COMPUTER CORP 7 May 1971 [7 May 1970 15 May 1970] 13815/71 Heading B6F A dot-matrix print head comprises a housing 10 having a number of print wire driving means 18 mounted on the rear faces of the rear wall which is in the form of a truncated pyramid, print wires 19 being connected to respective driving means and passing in line through a jewel bearing 44, 45, mounted in the front wall of the housing. The wires pass through guides 42 fixed in apertured plates 25, 32, and there is a plastics snap-on cover 150. During assembly the jewel bearing is located with the help of a strip spring 46 and subsequently fixed by an epoxy. Wire driving means: each comprises, Fig. 2 (not shown) a solenoid and an armature (57) to which a print wire 19 is attached. The armature is driven forward against the action of a flexible disc 61 secured to the armature. which disc serves as a return spring. The movement of the printing head assembly is detected by a position detection device (70), Fig. 16 (not shown), fixed to the housing, which includes a code strip 71 having a pattern of transparent and opaque strips. Light from a source (72) is focused on the stationary strip by a lens system (73) and passing through transparent slits (71a) is picked up by a photo-cell device to generate pulses representative of the light and dark areas of the strip pattern. The ouput pulses are applied to a circuit to control energization of the solenoids 18.
