1337899 Packaging apparatus SALDATRICI ROTATIVE AUTOMATICHE DI GIORGIO BILLI & C SAS 20 April 1972 [24 April 1971] 18358/72 Heading B8C In apparatus for packaging articles such as stockings, the garment A is placed over a slot 50 in support surface 49 and is then folded and drawn into channel 51 by a reciprocating L- shaped rod 20 which is extended from slot 50 and then rotated to bring its transverse arm across the garment before the downward stroke, and the end of which rod 20 is again rotated to disengage the garment before a reciprocable member 42 pushes the garment horizontally through channel 53 into a box 4, thereby folding the garment again. Boxes 4 are carried past channel 53 in containers 3 on endless chain 2. Rod 20 is mounted on a carriage 19 reciprocating between guides 23, and is rotated to engage and disengage the garments by the action of stops 25, 26, stop 26 being withdrawn by electromagnet 56 in response to control members detecting the absence of a box 4 on conveyer 2. Rod 20 continues to reciprocate, but does not pull down a garment. Reciprocation of rod 20 and member 42 is controlled by cam 10.
