Abstract
1337774 Vehicle frames; bumpers CHRYSLER UNITED KINGDOM Ltd 29 Aug 1972 [7 Sept 1971] 41699/71 Headings B7B and B7J In a motor vehicle having a passenger compartment 11 provided with a frame 14-18 and an engine compartment constructed to collapse on load impact in excess of a predetermined amount, guide means are provided in the frame to guide the vehicle engine beneath the passenger compartment in collision impact, and rigid bars 22, 26 at the vehicle front and rear are connected to the frame 14-18 by shock absorbers 23, 27. Each bar 22, 26 extends across the vehicle and is mounted at each end on a shock absorber 23 or 27, (Fig. 3, not shown),absorbers 23 being mounted on a transverse member 19 extending between the front uprights 14, and absorbers 27 connecting with the rear uprights 16. The guide means comprises downwardly inclined arms (21) (Fig. 2, not shown) pivotally connected, one on each side of the engine, between the member 19 and the engine. Alternatively the frame may carry a guide cam for guiding the engine. Bars 22, 26 may carry spring mounted bumper bars 24, 28 for absorbing light impact.
