Abstract

1337331 Multilayer films MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO 19 April 1971 [26 Jan 1970] 20274/71 Headings B5B and B5N A composite heat-sealable film comprises a support film of biaxially oriented polyethyleneterephthalate to which is bonded, e.g. by simultaneous co-extrusion of both layers, a sealing film of at least 0-2 mils thickness which has a lower m.p. and is thinner than the support film and which comprises a copolymer in the molar proportions 70/30 to 90/10 of ethyleneterephthalate with ethylenehexahydroterephthalate. The film is able to form a face-to-face heat-seal of peel strength #1¢ lb/in and can be creased without cracking after being heated for 15 min. at 220‹ C. The overall film thickness may be about 1 mil. and is suitable for packaging "cookin-the-bag" foodstuffs. The sealing layer may also be biaxially oriented.
