Abstract
1337177 Centrifugal separator construction COMMISSARIAT A L ENERGIE ATOMIQUE 28 May 1971 [3 June 1970] 18143/71 Heading B2P In order to compensate for the variation in length of a centrifuge bowl 1 having end walls 2, 3, Fig. 1, rigidly secured to coaxial drive and centering shafts 4, 5 respectively, the end walls are conical and deformable and the apices P 1 , Q 1 of the end walls form the points of connection of the shafts 4, 5. The shaft 4 is guided in a bearing 9. The shaft 5 carries a magnetic plate 6, the teeth 6a of which tend to remain in alignment with the teeth 7a of an oscillating plate 7 resting on a support member 8. Deformation of the end walls 2, 3 compensates for the variation in length and diameter of the bowl and hence maintains the air gap e constant so that the teeth 6a, 7a are maintained in alignment thus ensuring good centering of the bowl. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 3, the conical top end wall 12 of the bowl is secured by conical screw assemblies 11, 14 respectively to a cylindrical bowl body 10 and to a cap 13. The cap 13 is mounted in a bearing 15 and has a hole 16 for receiving the drive shaft. The bowl may form part of a high-speed centrifuge used for the isotope enrichment of uranium.
