Abstract
1336842 Polyurethane coating composition OLIN CORP 3 March 1971 5919/71 Heading C3R Also in Division B2] A flexible coating forming composition comprises (I) an isocyanate-terminated prepolymer which is the reaction product of (a) a polytetramethylene ether glycol having an average M.W. of 600 to 680, (b) an oxyalkylated triol having an average M.W. of 400 to 1000, in an amount of 0 to 20% by weight based on the combined weight of (a) and (b), and (c) an organic diisocyanate at an NCO/OH ratio of 1À2 to 1À8, with the proviso that where the oxyalkylated triol is employed in preparing the prepolymer, a onestep reaction is employed for the reaction of (a) and (b) with (c), and (II) a solvent. Toluene diisocyanate is the preferred diisocyanate and oxypropylated glycerine is the preferred oxyalkylated triol. The prepolymer is preferably prepared in the presence of the solvent (II), otherwise the solvent is added subsequently. Anti-oxidants, viscosity control compounds, pigments and catalysts may be added to the composition. The coating composition is applied to substrates by conventional techniques and cures on exposure to atmospheric moisture.
