Abstract
1336299 Burning noxious vapours J T BROADHURST 13 March 1972 [12 Dec 1970] 59l76/70 Heading F4B Combustible material in a gas stream, such as the exhaust gases from an incinerator, is burnt in apparatus comprising a passage 8, 10, 9 having heat exchange surfaces 11 heated by the combustion of an auxiliary fuel, the burnt gases from the auxiliary fuel being discharged upstream of the heat exchange surfaces. The heat exchange surfaces are distributed over the cross-section of the passage, Fig. 3, and may comprise a number of tubes 11 with individual burners positioned at the inlets 12, Fig. 1, and with the other ends of the tubes 13 opening into an upstream section 10 of the passageway. The supply of fuel to the individual burners may be controlled in accordance with the temperature at one or more points in or downstream of the heat exchanger, or a single burner may supply all the tubes. Air is introduced into the gases upstream of the passageway at 15.
