Abstract

1335700 Electro-photographic plate CANON KK 10 Nov 1970 [14 Nov 1969 5 March 1970 9 March 1970 18 March 1970] 53428/70 Headings G2C and C17D2 An electro-photographic element comprises a base, a photo-conductive layer and an insulating layer wherein the photo-conductive layer is a tellurium alloy layer in which the tellurium content increases from the base side towards the insulating layer. In the preferred embodiments alloys of Se and Te and optionally As are used to form photo-conductive layers of graded content either by evaporating an inhomogenous block of alloy or simultaneously evaporating an alloy of Se + Te and elemental Se. In one embodiment the photo-conductive layer is solely Se on one side. The presence of arsenic prevents crystallization of the alloy. The insulating layer may be provided by adhering a polyester film to the photo-conductive layer. It is preferred to maintain the base at a temperature above 63‹C during deposition of the photo-conductive layer and thus produce a photo-conductive layer of low residual potential.
