Abstract
1335410 Intruder alarms OPTICAL COATING LABORATORY Inc 19 April 1971 [6 Feb 1970] 20132/71 Heading G4N [Also in Division G1] An intrusion detection system comprises a sensor 11 for detecting infra-red radiation from the body of an intruder, an optical system 12 arranged to focus a plurality of discrete fields on to the sensor 11 and a band-pass filter 14 arranged to pass frequencies resulting from an intruder walking through said discrete fields but to discriminate against gradual changes within said fields. As shown in Fig. 1, an optical system 12 focuses discrete fields on to a thermistor bolometer sensor 11 the output of which is amplified by a band-pass amplifier 14 comprising a field effect or a junction transistor 26 feeding an operational amplifier 27. Capacitor 28 determines the lower frequency limit of 0À2 Hz whilst the upper frequency limit is set to 3 Hz by capacitor 37. An output above a predetermined voltage will pass detector 16 to operate relay 17 and set off a visual or audible alarm 18. The discrimination is improved by focusing a plurality of sector-shaped discrete fields on to the sensor 11 by means of a concave mirror (Figs. 9, 10) cut into sections, each formed of plastics material coated with chromium or aluminium. In Fig. 6, an annular field 68 corresponding to the perimeter of an area to be protected is focused on to the sensor 11 by means of a conical mirror 61 and lens 63. In Fig. 7 (not shown) the conical mirror is replaced by a pair of plane mirrors and the lens 63 by a concave mirror. In Fig. 8 (not shown) the optical system consists of a lens having one plane surface and one concave conical surface. In Fig. 12 (not shown) the complete apparatus is contained in a cylindrical container comprising a segmented concave mirror, the sensor 11 being screened from direct radiation and including a filter passing wavelengths between 4 and 20 microns formed by a dielectric coating on germanium.
