Abstract
1335005 Glass composition CARL-ZEISSSTIFTUNG [trading as JENAER GLASWERK SCHOTT & GEN] 30 March 1972 [2 April 1971] 15019/72 Heading C1M A heat-absorbing sealing glass devoid of lead oxide and barium oxide is derived from a glassmaking batch (A) which calculated as oxides has a percentage by weight composition as follows: 60À0-75À0 SiO 2 , 0-5À0 B 2 O 3 , 1À0-9À0 Al 2 O 3 , 0À5-1À5 Li 2 O, 9À0-15À0 Na 2 O, 1À0-7À0 K 2 O, 1À0-3À5 MgO, 2À0-5À0 CaO, 2À5-5À5 Fe 3 O 4 and/or Fe 2 O 3 with the proviso that part of the iron oxide (Fe 3 O 4 and/or Fe 2 O 3 ) is optionally replaced by the same weight of CoO; the batch (A) amounting to 100%: there being optionally added to the batch (A) the following expressed as percentages by weight based on the batch(A): 0-0À4 of fluoride calculated as fluorine, 0-1À0 reducing agent, and 0-1À0 refining agent. A preferred composition contains 3À0-3À7% of Fe 3 O 4 and/or Fe 2 O 3 +0À4-0À8 of CoO. The reducing agent may be sugar and the refining agent may be NB 4 Cl or NaCl. The glasses generally have heat expansion coefficients of 90-94 x 10<SP>-7</SP>/‹C. in the temperature range 20-300‹ C., and generally have a maximum infra-red absorption value between 1 and 3 Ám. The glasses may be formed into tubes from which gas-tight envelopes for electronic components may be made.
