Abstract

1334992 Gas discharge lamps PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 5 May 1972 [8 May 1971] 21025/72 Heading H1D A discharge lamp is provided on the exterior of its envelope with ductile metal heat shields 4, 5 parts of which can readily be removed or bent away from the envelope to adjust the local temperature of the lamp. In Fig. 1 annular strips can be torn off between perforated lines 6, 7, 8, 9. In Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) the shields consist of cylindrical sleeves with a plurality of longitudinal slits in their circumferences, the parts between the slits being readily bent away from the envelope. When the heat shields are at the ends of the tube they can form part of the end cap. Tantalum is a suitable ductile metal.
