Abstract
1334419 Explosive compositions WERKZEUGMASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKONBUHRLE AG 17 Aug 1971 [2 Sept 1970] 38440/71 Heading C1D An explosive composition comprises 60-85 parts by weight of a crystalline high explosive embedded in at least 15 parts by weight of a binder containing 30-70 parts by weight of an ester of polyvinyl alcohol and 70-30 parts by weight of a liquid organic nitrate plasticizer. The high explosive may be RDX, HMX or PETN. Suitable esters are polyvinyl acetate and polyvinyl nitrate, which may be stabilized with 2-nitrodiphenylamine. The plasticizer may be pentane trinitrate, hexane trinitrate, diethylene glycol dinitrate, or nitroglycerine. Other ingredients are solid paraffin and lead stearate as processing aids. The constituents may be mixed in the presence of water or alcohol which is then removed by heating under vacuum. Hollow charges may be moulded from the composition.
