Abstract

1334305 Crimping yarns; twisters HEBERLEIN & CO AG 4 June 1971 [5 June 1970] 19050/71 Headings DID and D1F A single twisting apparatus which enables false-twist to be imparted to a running yarn successively in both twisting directions, comprises a pair of axially parallel rollers 10, 11, supporting a twist tube 16 (engaged by pairs of discs 12, 12' and 13, 13') the roller 10 having an axial bore accommodating a shaft 21 carrying at its ends annular friction members 31, 32, to form therewith a friction twister. Shaft 21 (and hence the tube 16) is rotated in a bearing box 23 by a travelling belt 26 engaging a driving roller 25. Tube 16 is located and held in position by poles 17, 17' of a horse shoe magnet coating with a portion 18 of low-loss sheet iron: it has a forked head 19 mounting a pin 20 around which yarn to be twisted is wound. In a process for making synthetic e.g. polyamide, polyester, polyacrylonitrile, polyolefin, textured yarn the internal stress in which is at least partially, perhaps temporarily, compensated, a thermoplastic yarn passes successively through feed rolls (acting as a twist stop), a heater wherein twist is set, twist tube as 16, thereafter is guided (optionally, through another heater and) through shaft 21, thence through second feed rolls to windup: a speed differential between the pairs of feed rolls may determine overall stretching in the yarn of 1-10%. In a finished fabric or article e.g. hosiery, the internal stresses in the yarn may be restored by developing crimp e.g. by steam, hot air or water treatment.
