Abstract
1334109 Load engaging devices EATON GmbH 13 Oct 1971 [14 Oct 1970] 47573/71 Heading B8H A shelf loading device comprises a base-plate 4 mounted on a stacking crane (not shown), a drive unit 5 movable on guide-rails 2 on said plate 4 by means of rollers 8, and forks 6 mounted on the drive unit 5, the connection between said forks 6 and drive unit 5 being such that said forks 6 can either move in the opposite direction relative to the direction of motion of the drive unit 5 and thus maintain their position relative to the base-plate 4, or alternatively the forks 6 can remain fixed relative to, and thus move along with, the drive unit 5. The drive unit has an electric motor 12 having a transmission 13 on whose drive-shaft on both sides thereof a drive gear 15 is mounted to engage a toothed rack 3 on the base-plate 4 for movement of the drive unit 5, each gear 15 meshing with an intermediate gear 22 mounted on a shaft 20 on which a further gear 21 is mounted in meshing engagement with a toothed rack 7 on the underside of the respective forks 6. If it is desired to hold the forks 6 fixed relative to the base-plate 4 as the drive unit 5 moves from one side of the base-plate 4 to the other side electromagnetic clutches 27 are applied to secure both the intermediate gears 22 against rotation relative to the shafts 20, electromagnetic brakes 29 are released, thus freeing the shafts 20 for rotation and the drive from the drive gears 15 is transmitted to the toothed racks 7 on the forks 6 via the gears 22, 21. However, if the brakes 29 are operated and the clutches 27 released, the shafts 20 and thus gears 21 are secured against rotation relative to the gears 15 and the forks 6 are thus carried along with and thus maintain their position relative to the drive unit 5.
