Abstract
1332948 Welding by fusion PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 14 July 1971 [17 July 1970] 33055/71 Heading B3R A flux-cored arc welding electrode wire containing no nickel, comprises, by weight of the electrode, 2À9 to 3À5% Mn and up to 0À6% Si in the casing and/or, as non-slag-forming constituents, the core, the tubular casing is mainly of iron, and the core includes TiO 2 and SiO 2 in the weight ratio of 5:1 to 1:2, the sum of TiO 2 and SiO 2 being not more than 9% by weight of the electrode. The Mn and Si may be in the form of ferrous manganese and ferrous silicon. The electrode may also comprise (e.g. in the core) alloying constituents. Powdered iron and arc stabilizing materials such as K- feldspar may be provided in the core. The wire may be made by inserting core material (e.g. a pulverulent mixture) into a folded metal tube. In examples in downhand welding of 0À13% C, 0À6% Mn, 0À04% Si, balance Fe plate, CO 2 shielding gas is used.
