Abstract

1331954 Striped laminated fabric B M COATINGS Ltd 15 Oct 1971 [10 Nov 1970] 53323/70 Heading B5N A method of making a striped laminate includes the steps of coating a knitted or woven base material 11 with thermoplastic material 13, rendering the thermoplastic material tacky, applying spaced bands 17a to the material rendered tacky to form a striped material, and passing the striped material between a hard roll 19 and a soft roll 20 with the applied bands contacting the hard roll to produce a striped laminate with a planar face on that face to which the bands were applied. The fabric may be a woven nylon material. The thermoplastic material may be polyvinyl chloride may be self-extinguishing and may be applied in particulate form. In the method described with reference to the drawings, the coating is rendered tacky by infra-red heater 14 and the, bands are applied at the nip between rollers 15 which is water-cooled and 16, the striped material being heated by heater 14<SP>1</SP> and hard roll 19 being finely engraved to provide a pattern on the striped surface of the laminate.
