Abstract
1331563 Rotary boiler E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 19 April 1971 [18 Feb 1970] 21976/71 Heading F4A A rotary boiler comprises a boiler chamber B defined by a casing 1 mounted for rotation about its axis, and a cylindrical liquid supply chamber 11 rotated therewith by a motor M and supplied through tubular shaft 6 with liquid which then flows to the boiler chamber B through conduits 21, and further conduits 22 which serve to maintain the annular depth of liquid in the boiler chamber at a desired predetermined level. The conduits 21 and 22 are equally spaced around the circumference of casing 1, and the conduits 22 terminate at a distance from the casing equal to the said predetermined level, (and may be adjustable to vary that level), so that if the liquid level falls vapour under pressure in the boiler chamber enters the chamber 11 and forces more liquid into the chamber B through the conduits 21. The boiler is heated by means of a surrounding combustion chamber C in which is burned fuel from a nozzle (30), Fig. 2 (not shown) with air from a manifold (34), and the outer wall of the boiler casing may be provided with ribs 29 to increase heat transfer. The vapour so produced passes to a vapour chamber V internally of the boiler chamber and thence leaves through tubular shaft 5. The chamber 11 is provided with radial vanes 19a to impart rotational energy to entering liquid, and the chamber V with radial vanes 13a to recover rotational energy from departing vapour. In a modification, Fig. 6, boiler chamber B<SP>1</SP> is defined by a number of toroidal sections 56 externally of casing 50 of liquid supply chamber 59 and communicating therewith by conduits 61 and 63, analogous to conduits 21 and 22 of Fig. 1, and with vapour chamber V<SP>1</SP> through conduits 62.
