Abstract
133,066. Marlin Arms Corporation, (Assignees of Barlow, L. P.). Sept. 18, 1916, [Convention date]. Projectiles; fuses. - Relates to bombs comprising an explosive shell within an external casing from which the shell is expelled rearwards on impact, the explosion of the shell taking place above ground after it has thus rebounded for a given time or a given distance. According to the invention, the shell is expelled from its casing by mechanical means such as a spring, instead of by an explosive charge. In the form shown, the shell 5 is held in an outer tubular casing 1 against a spring 4 by spring detents 10, which are released when, on impact, the shell moves forward in the casing 1, increasing the compression of the spring. The shell thrown up by this spring is exploded when a short length of cable 16 becomes taut and pulls a percussion cap 23 against a firing-pin 22 as described in Specification 133,063. The outer casing has a winged tail 2 and is welded to a head-piece comprising a central dome 6<1> and forwardly projecting lugs 6<2>, which expand on impact and limit the penetration of the casing into the target.
