Abstract

1330348 Window cleaning devices; reservoir squeegees B E WOOLF 27 Nov 1970 56497/70 Headings A4F and A4K [Also in Division F1] A device for cleaning and/or de-icing a window or like surface comprises a container 1 for holding a cleaning or de-icing liquid associated with a manually operated pump, valve, or other means for applying the liquid to the surface to be cleaned or de-iced, and a cleaning and/or deicing head 5, attached to the container and comprising a rubber squeegee 11 and a rigid plastics ice scraping blade 12. The latter are carried by fins 4 integral with a cap 3 secured to one end of the container 1. A pump within the container 1 has a plunger 8 and piston 15 manually operated by repeatedly depressing a nozzle unit 9 through which liquid is discharged. The piston 15 is moved downwardly within a cylinder 14 against the action of a spring 16 which urges a ball valve 18 to close a passageway 17 for conducting liquid from the container 1 into the cylinder 14. On release of the nozzle unit 9 when at its lowermost position the piston 15 is moved upwardly by the spring 16 to draw liquid into the cylinder 14 past the ball valve 18. On the next downward stroke this liquid is forced through the piston 15 past a ball valve 23 into the plunger 8 which is filled on repeated operation so that liquid eventually discharges through the nozzle unit 9.
