Abstract
1329280 UO 2 pellets KERNFORSCHUNGSANLAGE JULICH GmbH 6 Nov 1970 [2 Dec 1969] 53034/70 Heading C1A Spherical fuel and/or breeding material particles for nuclear or breeding reactors are prepared by adding a solution of uranyl nitrate, urea, and hexamethylene tetramine dropwise to an immiscible liquid at 80-100 C., and withdrawing the pellets thus formed. The pellets may be further treated by washing with a volatile solvent, followed by ammonia solution and sintering at 1200-1400 C. Preferably the solution is prepared by adding solid hexamethylene tetramine to a solution of uranyl nitrate and urea whose U content is at least 500 g./l., and at 0-10 C. The immiscible liquid is preferably paraffin oil.
