Abstract

1329270 Making centrifuge motors ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AB 29 Oct 1970 [30 Oct 1969] 51414/70 Heading B3A [Also in Division B2] A centrifuge for separating a mixture of gases comprises a hollow rotor having gas inlet and outlet members and consisting of one cylindrical part 24 and two narrower parts, e.g. 21. The parts are made of wound material consisting of wire- or metal strip-reinforced metal, e.g. aluminium, the material being jointless in the narrower parts and the cylindrical part having at least one transverse joint formed by a splicing ring 29 of substantially the same material as that of the rotor. In making the rotor, the material is wound in a number of layers around a mandrel (not shown), the material and the reinforcement being wound together or separately. The finished rotor body is then cut along a transverse, asymmetrical section, the two parts taken apart and the mandrel removed. The parts are then rejoined by one or more splicing rings 29. Metal bushings 23, which have roughened, e.g. sandblasted, surfaces at least on their radially outer parts 28, have these parts, which may be dovetailed, in the rotor. An inner end piece 25 having the same shape as the narrower parts of the rotor and being of the same material may be secured to the cylindrical part 24 of the rotor.
