Abstract
1329019 Chairs or beds for aiding standing and sitting R S T COLE 2 Dec 1971 [4 Dec 1970] 57852/70 Heading A4J An article of furniture, e.g. a chair, for aiding an elderly or infirm person to stand up and sit down comprises a seat member 9 urged towards a tilt-up position by an elongate band of elastically extensible material 21 attached to the frame of the chair and having one end wound about a spindle 29 which is rotatable for adjusting the tension in the band. The seat may be held in a sitting position or an intermediate position by a pair of hooked arms 37 engaging with pins 33 or pins 35 respectively. Crutch type arms may be pivotally attached to the rear of the seat frame making it possible for a person to be lifted by his armpits. The article may be a bed and the "seat member" the mattress or part thereof.
