Abstract
1328919 Making boiler wall structures UNION CARBIDE CORP 20 Dec 1971 [29 Dec 1970] 58966/71 Heading B3A [Also in Division F4] In a method of making boiler wall structures which comprise a metal cover sheet 11 bonded to an impervious metal substrate 17, the cover sheet is formed by pressing a die having a multiplicity of closely spaced projections against a thin metal foil backed by a resilient surface to create deformations, piercing the extreme ends of the deformations at 15, and bonding the cover sheet to the substrate to form a structure with at least 25 cavities per sq. inch of substrate: each cavity having an effective diameter c of at least 0À003 inch and with restricted openings 15 of effective diameter R less than 0À8c. In the example shown a die with pyramid shaped projections has been used and the openings formed by pressing the die with sufficient force to rupture the tips of the deformations.
