Abstract

1328861 Disazo pigments SANDOZ Ltd 16 Nov 1970 [3 Dec 1969 4 Dec 1969 4 Feb 1970] 54413/70 Heading C4P The invention comprises azo compounds of formula wherein the symbols X are identical and stand for a group of formula R 1 -O-; -NH 2 or R 1 -NH-, where R is a hydrocarbon radical which may be substituted and/or may contain one or more hetero atoms; the symbols R 2 stand for identical or different carboxylic acid acyl radicals; A stands for a divalent hydrocarbon radical which may be substituted and/or may contain one or more hetero atoms and the rings B and D may each bear one or more further substituents, the molecule being free from CO 2 H and SO 3 H groups. The compounds may be prepared by diazotizing 1 mole of an amine of formula and I mole of an amine of formula and coupling the resulting diazonium compound or compounds with 1 mole of a compound of formula drying the resulting tetracarboxylic acid, converting it with a halogenating agent into the tetracarboxylic acid halide and condensing the halide with 4 moles of a compound X-H. The resulting compounds are yellow pigments which may be used for pigmenting synthetic polymers and resins, for dyeing viscose rayon and cellulose acetate spinning solutions and also for the coloration of paints, inks, paper and textile materials.
