Abstract

1328556 Direct-positive silver halide photographic emulsions FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 13 Nov 1970 [14 Nov 1969] 54208/70 Heading G2C [Also in Division C4] A direct-positive silver halide photographic emulsion contains at least one dye of the Formula:- wherein Z represents the atoms required to complete a cycloheptatriene ring which may be substituted; Z 1 represents O or NH; Z 2 represents the non-metallic atoms required to complete a 5-or 6-membered heterocyclic ring which may be substituted or fused with a benzene or naphthalene ring. R is a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group; L 1 and L 2 represent a substituted or unsubstituted methine group and L 2 may be joined to R to form an ethylene chain together; X is an anion; and m and n are 0 or 1, n being 0 when the dye forms an intramolecular salt. Z 2 may complete an oxazoline, oxazole, benzoxazole, naphthoxazole, thiazoline, thiazole, benzothiazole, naphthothiazole, selenazole, benzoselenazole, naphthoselenazole, 2-pyridine, 4-pyridine, 2-quinoline, 4-quinoline, imidazole, benzimidazole or naphthimidazole nucleus. The emulsion may be light fogged or fogged with a chemical foggant e.g. thiourea dioxide or hydrazine. The dye of the general Formula above has an excellent sensitizing effect in direct-positive silver halide emulsions.
