1328432 Making metal reinforcements DRAFTEX 19 April 1971 [11 Feb 1970] 21310/71 Heading B3A A metal reinforcement of generally U-shape in transverse section is formed from metal strip (Fig. 1) shich is scored at regular intervals to produce transverse scores 6, then deformed so as to cause areas 8 adjacent each score 6 to be bent out of the plane of the strip, and bent about is longitudinal axis A to impart the desired U-section thereto. In the embodiment shown additional scores 7 are made such that each complete score is of I shape and defines a pair of tongues 8 when the deformation occurs. The tongues 8 are bent back through 180 degrees (Fig. 2). The reinforcement further has edge notches 2 and longitudinal strands 11. In another embodiment (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown), the tongues 8 are stamped out so as to have portions parallel with the strip but spaced from the plane of the strip. In a further embodiment (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown), the transverse scores 6 are the only ones provided and projections (13) whose height decreases from a maximum at the axis A are stamped out. The reinforcement, once coated with plastomers or elastomers, or inserted into a plastics or elastomeric section, may be used to provide edge finishing or draught excluders for vehicles, e.g. along doors.
