Abstract
1327707 Imines MAY & BAKER Ltd 19 April 1971 [8 April 1970] 25726/71 Addition to 1231783 Heading C2C Novel compounds of Formula I (in which R 8 is H and R 9 is isopropyl, or R 8 and R 9 are both ethyl, or -NR 8 R 9 is morpholino, R 10 is H and R 11 is benzyloxy or, when R 8 and R 9 are both ethyl, R 10 is methyl and R 11 is hydroxy or, when -NR 8 R 9 is morpholino. R 10 is methyl and R 11 is benzyloxy) and acid addition salts thereof, are prepared by (a) reacting a compound of Formula II with an amine of formula HNR 8 R 9 , or (b) reacting a compound of Formula III with a compound of formula H 2 NR 11 , or (c) reacting a compound of Formula IV (in which X is the acid residue of a reactive ester) with an amine of formula HNR 8 R 9 . Compounds of Formula II are prepared by reacting a compound of Formula V with epichlorhydrin, or reacting a compound of Formula VI with a compound of formula H 2 NR 11 . Compounds of Formula V are prepared by reacting 2-(formyl or acetyl)-phenol with a compound of formula H 2 NR 11 . Compounds of Formula III are prepared by reacting a compound of Formula VI with an amine HNR 8 R 9 . Pharmaceutical compositions for oral or parenteral administration comprise a compound I, or a non-toxic acid addition salt thereof, together with a pharmaceutical carrier or coating. The active compounds I have antiarrhythmic and #-adrenoceptor blocking activity.
