Abstract
1327210 Making shaft furnaces DEMAG AG 6 Nov 1970 [12 Nov 1969] 52905/70 Heading B3A [Also in Division F4] A hearth construction for a shaft furnace comprises a layer of graphite or carbon blocks 5, a motor layer 6 located below the blocks 5 and a plurality of cooling ducts 7 embedded within the metal layer. The cooling ducts are arranged in a pattern such that each tube forms a secant to a base circle of the furnace wall. The cooling ducts 7 are in communication with pipe sockets 13 through compensators 12 which are arranged in a tamping layer 2 at each side of the bottom of the furnace. Inlet 14 for the cooling medium which preferably includes glycerine is arranged lower than the outlet 15. In a method for making the bottom wall of a shaft furnace, a plurality of cooling pipes are disposed within a casting mould and molten metal is applied to completely cover the pipes. The temperature of the pipes may be regulated from the interior of the pipes. The pipes are formed of copper and the metal is aluminium.
