Abstract

1326986 Electro-physical measurement MAGYAR ALLAMVASUTAK 15 Nov 1971 [14 Nov 1970] 53009/71 Heading G1N Damaged contact surfaces of railway wheels are monitored by energizing the rails from a high-frequency source, and detecting the change in impedance due to a damaged wheel. As described an H.F. generator is connected to an impedance across the rails, and the voltage pulse due to a faulty wheel is demodulated, filtered and converted to a rectangular pulse. The length of the pulse may be related to a predetermined speed, or a tachometer may be provided to correct the pulse length according to speed, and an axle counter determines the position in a train. A number of adjacent, short, track sections may be used to monitor multi-axled bogies.
