Abstract
1326484 Secondary - alkyl - hydroquinones EASTMAN KODAK CO 19 April 1971 [6 March 1970] 23189/71 Heading C2C [Also in Divisions C3 and G2] Secondary dodecyl hydroquinone obtained as a mixture of 12 of the 15 possible disubstituted isomers and 4 of the 5 possible monosubstituted isomers is prepared by heating hydroquinone and silica-alumina catalyst in toluene, removing the toluene-water azeotrope, adding 1-dodecene and heating at 220-225‹ C. Secondary nonyl hydroquinone obtained as a mixture of isomers is prepared similarly but using 1-nonene instead of 1-dodecene and nitrobenzene instead of toluene. Secondary hexadecyl hydroquinone obtained as a mixture of isomers is prepared similarly but using 1-hexadecene instead of 1-dodecene.
