Abstract

1326359 Electrode boilers S A WILLIAMS 7 Jan 1971 [27 Jan 1970] 52586/69 Heading H5H A three phase electrode boiler has three spiral electrodes 8, 9, 10 nested together within the shell 1, a jet of feed water being directed into at least one of the spiral gaps between two adjacent electrodes. In a preferred embodiment three feed water supply nozzles 17, 18, 19 project through the wall 2 of the boiler and a shield 14 connected to the neutral of the supply, and direct respective jets of water into the gaps, 11, 12, 13 between the electrodes. The width of the spiral gaps may decrease towards the centre of the boiler and further nozzles may be mounted above those shown. A valve 27 controls the supply of feed water to the nozzles and may itself be controlled by a current transformer associated with the electrical supply to the electrodes. The nozzles may be removably mounted in a sleeve welded to the boiler shell, Fig. 1 (not shown), and may also be used for bleeding water from the boiler.
