1325827 Regulating fuel injection pumps FRIEDMAN and MAIER A G 11 June 1971 [13 June 1970] 27465/71 Headings F1A F1B The stroke of a fuel injection pump control rod 1 of an internal combustion engine is limited during normal operation of the engine by a slide 13 which is moved against a restoring spring 14 by a pressure medium derived either from the fuel injection pump or from the engine. The pressure medium may be derived from the engine lubricating oil, the pressure of compressed air from an engine driven compressor or the priming pressure of the fuel injection pump. The pressure is communicated via an annular chamber 24 to an oil chamber 22 where it acts on a diaphragm 16 to move the slide 13. At the engine starting position, Fig. 1 (not shown), a stop screw 7 engages a stationary stop 8. After the engine has started, the pressure in chamber 22 urges the slide 13 against the stop 7 until the control rod 1 is placed in a position of reduced delivery (Fig.4) either automatically or by the operator's action. This allows the slide 13 to move into position and limit further movement of the control rod 1 toward the starting position. The rate of movement of slide 13 may be retarded by a restriction in the pressure medium supply duct to chamber 22. The members 16 may be omitted and the oil pressure act directly on the slide 13. The starting and normal positions of the control rod may be adjusted by washer 6 and lock nut 9.
