Abstract
1325743 Tool changers WERKZEUGMASCRINENKOMBINAT FRITZ HECKERT KARL-MARX-STADT VEB 19 Oct 1970 49480/70 Heading B3B An automatic tool-changer in a vertical spindle machine-tool (e.g. a planer-milling machine) comprises a tool store, and a toolchanging gripper rotatable about a vertical axis and movable along the axis between the store and the spindle as determined by limit stops, the gripper having two arms, each of which can carry a tool. As shown, the machine includes a bed 1, pillars 2 forming vertical guides 5 for a cross-beam 6 which provides horizontal guides 7 for cross-slides 8, 9 each of which mounts a vertically movable tool rest 11, 12 including tool spindles 13, 14. A chaindriven tool store 17, and an automatic tool changer 21 are provided. The latter comprises a vertical guide 20 along which a carriage 22 is drivable by a feed screw 23. A pair of toolchanger arms 24, 25 are provided, the arms being arranged mutually at right angles. In operation the spindle whose tool is to be changed is positioned along beam 6 so as to be vertically above tool-changer 21. With the arms 24, 25 disposed as shown in Fig. 3 the carriage 22 is raised until the tool-receipt aperture 28 of arm 25 engages the tool in the spindle. The carriage is then lowered to extract the tool from the spindle and the arms are indexed through 90 degrees to position arm 24 carrying another tool from store 17, beneath the spindle. After raising the carriage to insert the new tool, it is lowered and the arms rotated through 180 degrees so that the old tool is received in the tool store. Limit switches control the carriage stroke. These switches and their associated stops are provided on the tool rests or arms 24, 25 so that the vertical movement of the carriage is restricted in range according to the vertical position of a tool rest at the time of a tool change operation. Arms 24, 25 are telescopically extensible. Carriage 22, tool changer 21 and guide 20 are indexed together via a worm drive. Instead of their relative angular disposition being as shown, arms 24, 25 can be 180 degrees apart.
