Abstract

1325495 Battery vents ELECTRIC POWER STORAGE Ltd 19 April 1971 [4 March 1970] 10435/70 Heading H1B A vent plug unit for a multi-cell electric storage battery comprises vent plugs 10, a support strip 14 formed with corrugations 16, 17 which are sufficiently flexible to permit expansion and contraction of strip 14 to allow the spacing between plugs 10 to adjust itself and a comparatively rigid carrier 21 in which strip 14 is mounted so as to be free to expand and contract but not bend about corrugations 16, 17. The intention is to allow strip 14 to take up manufacturing tolerances. Corrugation 15 together with holes 12 in plugs 10 and corrugations 16, 17 allow gas to escape. Plugs 10 and strip 14 are of polyethylene and carrier 21 is of polystyrene. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown) the vent plugs are separate from the support strip and plug in holes in the strip which holes may be elongated for greater adjustment and the support strip and carrier are of polystyrene and the plugs of polyethylene.
