Abstract
1324982 DTA device L OERTLING Ltd 27 July 1970 [14 May 1969] 24702/169 Heading H1K Apparatus for differential thermal analysis comprises an enclosure 3 in which are supported aluminium crucibles 4, 5 on separate nickel platforms 6, 7 in a hole or recess in each of which the bead of a thermocouple 8, 9, respectively, is welded, the crucibles containing a sample material and a reference material respectively. The bead is inserted into a conical hole (12) Fig. 2 (not shown) or a blind recess, Fig. 4 (not shown), prior to welding. In alternative embodiments the platforms are both of copper or silver, brass, aluminium, gold, stainless steel, platinum, rhodium-platinum, chromium-nickel, aluminium-nickel; "Chromel", "Alumel" or "Inconel" (Registered Trade Marks). The crucibles may be silver, platinum, platinumrhodium or "Inconel". Suitable metals for the thermocouple junctions are: chromium-nickel : aluminium-nickel; iron : constantan; copper : constanton; iridium - platinum : palladiumgold; iron-gold : chromium-nickel; gold-palladium-platinum : palladium-gold; and platinum: rhodium-platinum.
