Abstract
1324297 Ceramic gas burners KONINKLIJKE NEDERLANDSCHE HOOGOVENS EN STAALFABRIEKEN NV 19 April 1971 [16 March 1970] 26338/71 Heading F4T A gas burner comprising refractory brick material and intended to preheat air for a blast furnace, comprises a gas passage 5 fed by a duct 3 and a combustion air passage 6 disposed around the gas passage and fed by a duct 4, the upper end of the air passage 6 being divided by walls 12 so as to open in the form of two rows of slots to achieve a uniform flow of air while a tapered brickwork core 11 is built in the lower part of the fuel passage 5 to define with the wall of the passage a slot-like channel around the core which serves to achieve a uniform gas flow. Restrictions 9 and 10 in passages 6 and 5 also serve to attain uniformity of gas and air flow speeds. The preferred cross-sectional shape for the gas passage 5 and core 11 is rectangular but reference is also made to an oval configuration. In an alternative modification of the embodiment having a rectangular gas passage 5, the core 11 may extend to meet both of the shorter sides thus creating two distinct slot-like channels. The core 11 may be made from steel or concrete instead of bricks. The burner is described as being incorporated in a hot blast stove of which numeral 1 indicates part of a wall while another wall 2 separates the burner from a pile of heat absorbing bricks. It is stated that a plurality of such burners may be incorporated in one stove.
