Abstract

1324257 Tris-triiodoisophthalamic acid compounds E R SQUIBB & SONS Inc 7 Aug 1970 [11 Aug 1969] 38237/70 Heading C2C Novel compounds of the formula wherein Z is C 1-6 alkyl or -NR<SP>1</SP>R<SP>11</SP>, wherein R<SP>1</SP> is C 1-6 alkyl and R<SP>11</SP> is H or C 1-6 alkyl, n is an integer from 2 to 4, and basic salts and lower alkyl esters thereof, may be obtained by reacting 1 mole of a tris(aminoalkylene)amine with at least 3 moles of a 3-alkoxycarbonyl-5 nitrobenzoyl halide to form compound (II) wherein R 1 is lower alkyl, hydrolysing and thereafter reducing to form a compound (III) reacting the latter with an iodinating agent to form a compound (IV) reacting (IV) with an acylating agent to form (I) and optionally forming salts with an inorganic or organic base or reacting with an alkylating agent to form the ester. The compounds of Formula I are useful as radiopaque agents for visualization of animal systems or organs.
