Abstract

1323450 Separating effluent from hydrocarbon hydroprocesssing zones UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS CO 7 Dec 1970 57965/70 Heading C5E The effluent 1 from a catalytic hydroprocessing zone, such as the hydrocracking, hydrotreating, hydrorefining or hydropurification of tar sand oil, topped or reduced crude, vacuum residuum, or black oil, is separated at 2, e.g. at 343-427‹ C. and 1000-4000 p.s.i.g., into a hydrogen-rich gaseous fraction 3 and a hydrocarbon-rich fraction 13. The fraction 3 is separated at 4, e.g. at - 18 to 371‹ C., into a gaseous stream 5 comprising hydrogen and a liquid stream 6, comprising normally gaseous non-hydrocarbon components, normally gaseous hydrocarbons and normally liquid hydrocarbons, of which a portion 11 is passed to a fractionation zone, a portion 10 is recycled to the cold separation zone 4 and the remainder is recycled into an upper portion of the hot separation zone 2 in countercurrent contact with the gaseous stream 3. At least a portion of the hydrocarbon-rich fraction 13 is separated in a flash zone 16 into a hydrogen fraction 17 and a normally liquid hydrocarbon fraction 20. A portion of the hydrocarbon-rich fraction 13 can be recycled to the hot separator 2 and/or to the catalytic hydroprocessing zone. Normally liquid hydrocarbon fraction 20 can be passed to the fractionation zone along with the stream 11. A stream 9 comprising normally gaseous non- hydrocarbon components e.g. NH 3 and H 2 S, and a liquid stream 8 of heavy components can be separated from the liquid stream 6 in a cold flash drum 7.
