Abstract
1323250 Anti-theft devices SOC D'EXPLOITATION DES BREVETS NEIMAN 28 Oct 1971 [30 Nov 1970] 50280/71 Heading E2A In a key-operated anti-theft device for motor vehicles including a bolt and a locking mechanism and wherein movement of the bolt to a locking position cannot be completed until the key has been removed from the locking mechanism, the locking mechanism includes a housing 3 containing channels 4, 5, a sleeve 6 rotatably mounted in the housing and secured against axial displacement, the sleeve containing a cylinder 7 which is rotatable therewith and axially displaceable therein, the cylinder containing plate tumblers 8, the sleeve having apertures to enable the plate tumblers to engage the channels in the housing, a key slot 15, a recess 24 in the sleeve inwardly of the entrance to the key slot, the recess housing one or more displacement members 25, 26, a cam 34 rigidly connected with the cylinder 7 and a spring 32 arranged to oppose axial displacement of the cylinder, whereby, when a key is inserted in the key slot, the displacement member or members are moved transversely relative to the key slot, thereby displacing the cylinder and cam, the plate tumblers are positioned to release the sleeve and cylinder from the housing, so that the cylinder, sleeve and cam can then be rotated by means of the key, the cam on rotation moves the bolt 43 to an unlocking position, and on rotation of the cylinder, sleeve and cam in the reverse direction a position is reached, in which, upon withdrawal of the key from the locking mechanism, the cylinder, cam and displacement member or members are moved back to their initial position by means of the spring,: the cam permitting the bolt to complete its movement to the locking position. As shown, the bolt carries a pin 46 which is biassed by a spring 47 and in the locking position, is held retracted by engagement with a side surface of the cam; however, when the bolt 43 is withdrawn from the locking position by the cam, the pin is moved beyond the edge surface of the cam by the spring 47 and by engagement with the edge surface of the cam prevents movement of the bolt to the locking position. The axial movement of the cylinder when the key is withdrawn and which takes place under the bias of the spring 32 moves the cam axially so that it becomes disposed beyond the end of the pin 46, the bolt being then moved to the locking position by a spring 48. The housing is provided with two lugs 36, which in the locking condition, engage recesses 38 in the cam, and the cam is provided with a stop 40 which, in the locking position, engages a recess 41 in the housing; thus, in the locking condition, the cam cannot rotate relative to the housing but when it is axially displaced by the entry of the key the lugs and the stop are freed from their recesses and the cam can then be rotated. The members 25, 26 may be rollers, balls or of wedge form.
