Abstract

1322533 Filter element AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO Ltd 27 May 1971 [5 June 1970] 27306/70 Heading BID An annular filter element comprises a cylindrical, perforate metal shell enclosed by a layer of helically wound wire having protrusions to space adjacent turns apart, the ends of the shell and material being embedded in moulded plastics end caps presenting respective parallel flat surfaces to engage the walls of an enclosing housing. The wire may have a rectangular cross-section. Exemplified plastics are polyurethane, epoxy resins, polyesters and polyvinyls. The end caps may both be annular or one closes the end of the element and the other is annular. In Fig. 2 (not shown) the annular end cap has a flange (19) presenting a flat end and a hexagonal periphery to engage a hexagonal aperture in the housing. Fig. 2 illustrates a wire mesh filtering layer which is outside the scope of the claims, but its end caps may replace those in Fig. 1.
