Abstract

1320309 Compositions in sheet form V P VARIOPHARM GmbH 19 April 1971 [18 March 1970] 24495/71 Heading A5B [Also in Division B2] Pharmaceutical and cosmetic compositions in the form of flexible sheets and films are made by forming an oil-in-water emulsion containing the active material and a water soluble or swellable film former and reducing the water-content of a thin layer thereof to from I to 15%. The oil phase of the emulsion is or comprises an oily or oleaginous substance such as an animal, vegetable or mineral oil. A conventional emulsifier is present as well as the film-former which may be a water-dispersable or swellable cellulose derivative, or an alginate. In an example, a piece of mull is incorporated into the sheet and reference is made to applying the sheet material to a backing such as a bandage or adhesive tape. Numerous active materials which may be incorporated are specified as well as such ingredients as TiO 2 and ZnO which increase covering power of ointments.
