Abstract

1320258 Storing liquefied gases LIQUID GAS ANLAGEN UNION GmbH 1 Oct 1971 [1 Oct 1970] 45920/71 Heading F4P A liquefied gas, e.g. acetaldehyde, butadiene or vinyl chloride storage tank 10 is loaded and unloaded through a valved duct 28, 29 and the gas space of the tank is connected by valvecontrolled ducts 23, 22, 19 shown in thick lines in Fig. 1, to the shell space 1<SP>1</SP> of a heat exchanger 1 containing coolant tubes 2 whereby the gas is condensed and returned through ducts 24, 17, 29 to the tank; the liquid space of the latter also being connected through valved ducts 26, 18, 25 shown in thick lines in Fig. 2 to the shell space of exchanger 1 resulting in vaporization of the liquid which is then returned through a duct 20, a compressor 11 and ducts 21, 23 to the gas space of the tank. A further tube 3, Fig. 3, within exchanger 1 may be traversed by liquid forced by a pump 12 through duct 17 prior to discharge through ducts 18, 16 thereby providing heat for vaporization of liquid in the shell space of exchanger 1; the resulting vapour being compressed at 11 and returned to the gas space of the tank. Tube 3 can also be used to heat liquefied gas prior to loading into tank 10. The heat exchanger can also serve to heat or cool the stored liquefied gas in transit.
