Abstract

1320049 Lasers COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE 24 Nov 1971 [25 Nov 1970] 54546/71 Heading H1C In a laser in which a transparent block 1 provided with a reflecting layer 12 is formed with tunnels 2, 3 respectively accommodating a laser rod 4 and a straight discharge pumping lamp 5, the rod and lamp are each of smaller diameter than the associated tunnel, and are symetrically disposed therein, so as to provide a uniform annular space 6, 7 through which a liquid coolant is circulated between inlet and outlet ducts 8, 9 and 10, 11. The reflecting layer may be a layer of gold, or an equivalent diffusion layer consisting of rammed magnesia. The block may be a cylinder of elliptical crosssection with the rod and lamp located at respective foci.
