Abstract
1319866 Moulding tyres UNIROYAL 19 Aug 1970 [29 Aug 1969] 39894/70 Heading B5A [Also in Division B7] A tyre mounting device for use in association with a vulcanizing press 1a, 1b comprises a rim assembly 4 including two elastomeric tyre bead sealing rings 4a, 4b each having first and second annular edges 50 and 52 respectively, the edges 50 being clamped between plates 5a, 5b and 5a, 5c and the edges 52 being deformable radially outwardly by a mechanism so as to engage the upper and lower beads of a tyre positioned to encircle the rings. The ring deforming mechanism includes an upper ring deforming member 6c movable axially relative to the sealing rings and having a conical surface 6c<SP>1</SP> for forcing the edge 52 of the upper ring 4a outwardly; a lower ring deforming member 3e has a conical surface 3e<SP>1</SP> for extending the edge 52 of the lower sealing ring 4b. The rim assembly including the plates 5a, 5b and 5c and rings 4a, 4b rests on a plate 5d fixed to a shaft 5f having a cap-nut 5e at its upper end and a supporting ring 51 at its lower end. The rim assembly is moveable vertically relative the base 2 of the device and the lower mould shell 1b. Vertical motion for expanding and distending the rings is effected by six fluid operated jacks V 1 -V 6 nested one within the other i.e. the moving piston or cylinder of one jack may provide a reference platform from which the moving piston or cylinder of another jack is raised or lowered. Jack V 1 has a movable piston 2c slidable about a fixed upstanding rod 2d in a fixed cylinder 2a, 2b; jack V 2 includes a movable cylinder assembly 3a-3c with a fixed piston 2m; V 3 has a movable piston 5h in a cylinder assembly 3c, 3f: V 4 comprises a movable piston 5g in a cylinder assembly 3f, 3d; V 5 consists of a movable piston 7a<SP>1</SP> in a cylinder assembly 5j, 6a and V 6 has a movable cylinder assembly 6d, 6b and a fixed piston 5j and vertically moves the deforming member 6c. A rod 7a extends from piston 7a<SP>1</SP> and connects with a plate 7b which operates pairs of pivoted links 7c, 7d, the links 7d incorporating tyre hangers 7e. The links are angularly staggered in relation to tyre loader arms 1c. Operation.-Before receiving a tyre 20 the apparatus is as shown in Fig. 1 in which the bead sealing rings are retracted inwardly by pressuring chamber A, B, E and I. Chamber D of jack V 3 is now pressurized to drive sleeve 5h down whereby the shaft 5f and its components are lowered causing the ring 4b to be expanded radially, by contact with member 3e, to a diameter equal to that of the lower tyre bead, Fig. 2, not shown. The tyre is then lowered over the rim assembly until its lower bead is adjacent the ring 4b, Fig. 3, not shown. Chamber F is pressurized to raise member 3e and lower piston 5g and the shaft 5f assembly whereby ring 4b is lowered and fully expanded radially, Fig. 4, not shown. Chamber A is now evacuated and pressure in chamber B drives piston 2c down; the assembly 3a, 3b, 3c and shaft 5f assembly is lowered so as to clamp the lower tyre bead between the mould part 1b, and the ring 4b, Fig. 5, not shown. This is followed by pressurizing chamber H and evacuating chamber I to bring members 6b, 6c down relative rim assembly 4 whereby member 6c expands bead sealing ring 4a radially outwardly, Fig. 6, not shown. Chamber G is pressurized causing piston 7a<SP>1</SP> to raise rod 7a and plate 7b causing tyre supporting arms 7d to rise and support the tyre carcass, Fig. 7, not shown, the tyre loader arms 1c are now withdrawn, Fig. 8, not shown. The upper mould part 1a is lowered on to the tyre and releases arms 7d and strips the tyre therefrom; the press is finally closed and vulcanization effected, Figs. 9 and 10, not shown. Unloading of the vulcanized tyre is effected by lifting the mould shell 1a, pressurizing chambers E and A causing retraction of member 3e and collapse of lower bead sealing ring; shaft 5f assembly is raised to lift the tyre from the lower mould shell, Fig. 12, not shown. Chamber C is pressurized and chamber B evacuated driving member 3c upwardly and raising shaft 5f assembly and tyre; a tyre support 10 is then positioned, Fig. 13, not shown, and the chamber I pressurized to drive member 6c upwardly to release the tyre. Chamber B is finally pressurized to return the parts to the Fig. 1 positions. Pressure fluid is supplied to the various chambers through passages located in the parts and via telescopically arranged tubes. Vulcanizing fluid is supplied to the tyre interior via passages located in the plate 5a.
