Abstract
1318463 Food for aqueous animals ASAHI KASEI KOGYO KK 19 Aug 1970 [22 Aug 1969 25 Aug 1969 31 Oct 1969] 39898/70 Heading A2B [Also in Division C6] Aquianimals including specified species, &c. of zoo-plankton, fish, octopus, crustacean and mollusc are fed with a culture product obtained by aerobically culturing in a medium containing molasses and one or more nitrogen compounds, as carbon and nitrogen sources respectively, a strain of yeast which is viable in sea water, and in sea water has a COD rising index of not more than 150 and an RNA excretion rate of not more than 20% (both defined). Yeasts conforming to the definition do not possess inhibiting toxin and excrete inter-cellular substances into the aquianimals' breeding medium only to a negligible extent. It is preferred also to include algae (Chlorella, Chlamydomonus, Chaetocerus, Scenedesmus or Ulva) in the breeding medium. Yeasts of the genera Saccharomyces, Torulopsis and Rhodotorula may be used, particularly the strains designated Saccharomyces disaccharomellis, Saccharomyces acidosaccharophillii, terulopsis candida var. marina, Terulopsis larvae and Rhodotorula rubra var. marina. Example 14 discloses a feed mixture comprising marine yeast (according to the invention), frozen sand eel, white fish meal, wheat flour, carboxymethyl cellulose and inorganic salts.
