Abstract
1318206 Transformers ASSOCIATED ENG Ltd 19 April 1971 [23 March 1970] 13992/70 Heading HIT [Also in Division G1] When a ferromagnetic core 13 passes between the parallel pole faces 11 of another ferromagnetic core 10 and completes the magnetic circuit the inductive coupling allows a signal to be passed from one winding 15 to the other 12. Several cores 13 each connected to its own transducer may be attached to the body 14, spaced so that only one at a time is between the pole faces. One set of pole faces (e.g. 11) is larger than the other so that the ratio of the input and output signals will be constant during part of the motion. The total air gap is 30 thousandths of an inch and limited movement (e.g. 12 thous.) perpendicular to the usual direction of motion does not affect the signal. The transducers may be a variable resistor, inductor, capacitor or a thermocouple feeding the winding through an F.E.T. If the coil 12 is in an oscillator circuit the signal modulates either the amplitude or frequency which is then amplified, filtered &c. and recorded.
