1317577 Seaming non-metallic sheet material EUROPACK ENG CO Ltd 30 Oct 1970 [4 Nov 1969] 54005/69 Heading B5K A jaw for heat sealing thermoplastic film layers has a bar or strip 16 formed with a pair of long edges 16a through which the jaw may contact the film and which bar or strip 16 is adjustably mounted on the jaw to allow one or other of the edges 16a to be positioned to contact the film. As shown, the jaw comprises a pair of metal plates 10 joined by screws 17 and sandwiching between them an insulating spacer 14, electric heating elements 12 between insulating layers 13, and a heat-conducting bar 15 projecting beyond the plates 10. Two bars or strips 16 each having two parallel edges 16a of rounded section are clamped to the bar 15 by screws 19 readily removable to allow the edges 16a in use or the bars or strips 16 to be changed. The bar 15 and the bars or strips 16 may be sprayed with a polytetrafluoroethylene coating. A heated nickel-chrome resistance wire (not shown) may be mounted between the bars or strips 16 to cut the film between parallel weld lines formed by the edges 16a.
